What happens when I go for treatment
We will discuss the reason you are coming for treatment.
Then if you wish to proceed we will go through your health history and I will take your pulse and look at your tongue.
We will do a treatment on your first visit.
What does it feel like
Some patients feel very little sensation, others may feel a tingling or slight, temporary numbness around the area of the needle.
It is very different from having an injection because the needles are very fine.
How many treatments will I need
This depends on the condition you present with.
Generally the longer you have had a problem the more treatments it takes to shift.
I can normally tell after 2 or 3 treatments how things will progress.
Is it safe
I use pre-sterilised single use needles.
I am an experienced and well trained practitioner.
Should my doctor know
It is always best to tell your doctor that you are having acupuncture treatment.
Your acupuncturist will sometimes want to discuss the treatment with your GP.
We might talk about diagnosis, medications and ongoing care.
Who has acupuncture
Acupuncture is suitable for people of all ages although I tend to treat from the age of 10 and up. There are acupuncturists who specialise in the treatment of younger children I can recommend if needed.
Acupuncture is safe in the treatment of pregnant women and I have successfully treated morning sickness, turned breech babies and helped to induce babies who are over term.
You don’t have to be a believer for acupuncture to work and some of my best successes have been treating sceptical clients coming as a ‘last resort’.
